Bogotá - Ecopetrol y Shell EP Offshore Ventures Limited (“Shell”) suscribieron un acuerdo mediante el cual Shell adquirirá el 50% de participación en los bloques Fuerte Sur, Purple Angel y COL-5, localizados en aguas profundas del Caribe colombiano, donde se realizó el descubrimiento de una nueva provincia gasífera con los pozos Kronos (2015), Purple Angel y Gorgon (2017).

Tras el acuerdo, Shell asumirá la operación de los bloques. Las partes tienen la intención de perforar un pozo delimitador en el área a finales del 2021, una vez se surtan las respectivas aprobaciones de las autoridades, y realizar la primera prueba de producción. De ser positivas estas actividades, se podrían desarrollar los descubrimientos y así ampliar la oferta de gas para el país en el mediano plazo.

Este acuerdo que realizamos con un aliado de primer nivel como Shell, reconocido por su experiencia en operaciones en aguas ultraprofundas y en el desarrollo y comercialización de proyectos de gas de gran impacto, nos permitirá comprobar la capacidad de producción de estos reservorios y su posible desarrollo futuro. Estamos muy satisfechos con esta alianza que nos llevará a aumentar las reservas y producción de un combustible amigable con el medio ambiente, clave en la transición energética, y fortalecer la relación estratégica con Shell, con la que ya venimos trabajando en el Presal de Brasil y en el Golfo de México (Estados Unidos)”, aseguró Felipe Bayón, presidente de Ecopetrol.

Desde 2019 Ecopetrol había emprendido la búsqueda de un nuevo aliado operador de clase mundial para estos bloques, luego de que el operador anterior cediera su participación.

El acuerdo suscrito por Ecopetrol y Shell está sujeto a las respectivas aprobaciones por parte de la Agencia Nacional de Hidrocarburos y de otras condiciones propias de transacciones de esta naturaleza.

Ecopetrol es la compañía más grande de Colombia y es una empresa integrada en la cadena del petróleo, ubicada entre las 40 petroleras más grandes del mundo y entre las cuatro principales en Latinoamérica.
