Thicker oil for anti-wear protection
Well-travelled engines can be prone to greater wear and higher oil consumption, which can lead to reduced performance and premature failure. Cleaner engines can operate more efficiently. Efficient engines are likely to feel smoother and be quieter.
Shell Helix HX5 K is thicker than ordinary oils, which helps to reduce oil leaks. It also contains 30% more anti-wear chemical than Shell Helix HX5 to provide the extra protection that well-travelled engines may need.
It also uses special Active Cleansing Technology to help engines to operate efficiently for a smoother and quieter drive. In studies carried out by an independent market research agency, a statistically significant number of respondents felt that their cars were quieter after a Shell Helix HX5 K oil change.
The oil in a clean engine can flow more quickly to where it is needed and has improved access to surfaces, so that the engine is better protected. Shell Helix HX5 K goes on delivering its benefits throughout the oil-change interval.
Shell Helix HX5 K is specifically formulated for fuel-injection gasoline engines that have been driven more than 100,000 km and are fitted with blow-by-gas recirculation. The oil meets vehicle manufacturers’ specifications and severe-service applications.
Proven cleansing technology
A leading lubricant manufacturer recently said, “Once sludge builds up, it is difficult, if not impossible, to remove.” In tests at an independent laboratory, Shell Helix HX5 K oil removed 28% of the sludge from a gasoline engine. The engine was run with a mineral motor oil for a typical oil-change interval, and sludge built up. The oil was then replaced with Shell Helix HX5 K, and the engine was run again for a similar period. An immediate clean-up effect was seen with Shell Helix HX5 K, and the oil went on cleaning the engine for the entire test interval.

To clean and protect an engine, the oil must continue to perform until it is removed when the car is serviced. With some manufacturers recommending longer service intervals, an oil’s ability to stay fit is even more important. Throughout the oil’s life, it has to disperse more and more dirt – keeping it locked away and preventing it from being redeposited in the engine.
